Concern for the environment has led many tire dealers and mechanics to institute recycling programs for tires . Some will offer discounts on new tires to those who bring in old tires for safe disposal while others simply serve as collection points. In fact, there are numerous ways to dispose of any kind of tire.
Most cities and towns now have strict rules about how to handle old tires. Gone are the days when car owners could simply burn cheap tires in their backyard or junkyards could set entire fields of tires aflame. Now many dumps don’t even accept tires as cities encourage citizens to give tires a second life by utilizing special tire recycling programs.
These programs will take any type of tire — michelin tires from cars, motorcycle tires, even ATV tires — and use them in building everything from roads and parking lots to playground equipment and home insulation. Some schools will accept tires as donations to be used, as is, for obstacle courses and sports training. Of course, many people find a use for tires in their own backyards, as tire swings, planters, or by cutting the tire into pieces of rubber to use as protective shielding on buildings, vehicles, or other important property.
